Why I became an editor
I have a keen eye for detail, and I have written a number of recreational stories as a way to express my imagination. I have also worked with friends on editing their own works of fiction, and I found I wanted to become more proficient and professional in this area.
Background and experience
I've worked as a landscape gardener, outdoor education instructor, and charity shop manager. My editing experience started with training at Proofreading Academy and a role at Proofed.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I like helping people to achieve a higher standard of work. I also enjoy looking for any mistakes; I have a keen eye for detail, and there is a great deal of satisfaction when you can fix something for someone in a piece of writing.
Favorite book:
Hannibal by Thomas Harris (but I don't actually have one favourite book, I have a list!)
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I am usually hiking in the Lake District or searching out wildlife to take photos of. Or being incessantly talked at by my cat!
Editing tips:
I like to read a document through quickly first to get a sense of the author's style, but also to get an idea of how much work is needed.
