Favorite referencing style
I like IEEE referencing because of the simplicity of its number–note system.
Why I became an editor
I have always loved words, and I've been an avid reader and writer my whole life. During my time studying for my degree in professional writing, I discovered that I also love to edit. I get such satisfaction from taking a sentence and making it the best it can be. Proofreading is a great way to use both my language skills and my natural perfectionism. I also enjoy helping people, so editing is the perfect mixture of all the things I love to do!
Background and experience
I have a degree in professional writing from the University of Hull. I've been writing ever since. I also worked in hospitality for some time before moving into finance. I now work as an office manager for an accounting firm, where I use my writing and editing skills often. I took Proofreading Academy's course in 2021 and I knew immediately that proofreading was meant for me! I moved from the UK to the USA in 2012, and I have a particular eye for the differences between the two dialects.
Why I love proofreading and editing
Proofreading blends my love of reading with my natural perfectionism. I enjoy being able to read all kinds of documents and then getting to work with the writers to make them the best they can be.
Favorite book:
It's so hard to pick an all-time favorite! But I recently read The Gracekeepers by Kirsty Logan and absolutely adored it.
Hobbies:
My work involves a lot of sitting down, so I get active in my free time. I’m a runner and recently took up triathlons. At the very least, my black lab makes sure I get out for a walk every day!
Editing tips:
I like to read the document out loud to myself. It's so much easier to spot errors that way!
