Favorite referencing style
In my own academic writing, I like using APA because it looks neat and helps to maintain the flow and readability of the text.
Why I became an editor
I love reading, writing, and learning, and I found it hard to choose just one thing. I studied widely at university in areas such as humanities, social sciences, and environmental studies. I went on to become a museum curator, and this work taught me the role that clear, accurate, and meaningful writing can play in helping people connect with complex and diverse artwork and cross boundaries of time and place. This fueled my love for editing and proofreading.
Background and experience
I have over fifteen years of experience in writing, editing, and proofreading texts such as labels, text panels, catalogs, books, press and marketing material, blogs and web copy, social media copy, educational material, essays, academic papers, conference presentations, grants, annual reports, academic papers, and books.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love helping people to communicate their ideas, experiences, and knowledge through writing that is clear, accurate, and meaningful. I really enjoy proofreading and editing on a wide range of topics, but I am particularly interested in history, heritage, cultural studies, literature, education, psychology, anthropology, social sciences, and the environment.
Favorite book:
My favorite fiction book is The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkein and my favorite non-fiction book is The Old Ways by Robert Macfarlane.
Hobbies:
My hobbies include gardening, cooking, bush walking, watching stand-up comedy, and reading on rainy days while my cat sleeps on my lap.
Editing tips:
I always read the text through before I begin proofreading. This gives me a general sense of the content being covered and a feel for the author's writing style and tone.
