Favorite referencing style

I don't really have a favorite referencing style. I am the most familiar with the Harvard style.

Why I became an editor

In 2015, I embarked on a degree in English Literature and Creative Writing. While allowing time for tears (it happens to all), I never lost sight of the happiness I felt from seeing the finished product. This joy was brought about through attentive reading and oodles of editing essays, prose, and poetry pieces. It is through working with words and being able to finalize a professional piece of writing that I decided it would be nice to embark on a rewarding career in proofreading and editing.

Background and experience

Having had various PA and secretarial roles, I was often given documents to proofread and edit. This gave me enormous satisfaction in knowing that I was trusted to make edits to important documents as I saw fit. Many of these documents were of a legal and binding nature, such as documents to tender and contracts. Other roles took place in a media setting, where I worked alongside a translator, proofreading and editing video transcripts.

Why I love proofreading and editing

One of the most satisfying aspects of proofreading is that I can help to make a document look and sound professional in its capacity. I have experience with my own essay writing and creative writing, and I understand the difference between the structure of voice in creative writing and that of voice in business writing. Proofreading and editing are exciting because they allow you to read and learn from a wide range of subjects.

Favorite book:

My favorite book is The Sword and the Scimitar by David Ball. This novel is about two children on an epic adventure amidst the conflict between Christian Europe and the Islamic Ottoman Empire.

Hobbies:

I like to read and write poetry.

Editing tips:

I like to keep a checklist. This helps to make sure I have checked every aspect. It also helps to remember what you can and cannot edit, and it’s good practice to leave clear comments.
