Favorite referencing style
My favorite referencing style is APA because this was the style used in my proofreading course.
Why I became an editor
I love reading, but I find myself correcting mistakes I run across. Sometimes, I want to crawl inside the book to make it more readable. I decided proofreading would be the perfect job for me, since I do it in my head all the time anyway. I have lived in Japan for the past 34 years and have experience correcting ESL papers.
Background and experience
I proofread a self-published autobiography for a relative. I taught English and American culture to Japanese students for two years at the YMCA International High School in Japan. I homeschooled my five children temporarily and worked as a substitute teacher at their school. I have experience teaching English to Japanese adults.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I get satisfaction out of taking a piece of writing and making it easier to read. Error-free writing builds respect for the author and gives greater credibility to the writing. I especially love reading fiction, clean romance, creative writing, and books about health. I would love to help self-published authors succeed.
Favorite book:
Dee Henderson's O'Malley series are my favorite books.
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I'm reading, going on walks, and playing with my grandchildren.
Editing tips:
I read the document first before making any corrections. The second time, I correct obvious mistakes. The third time, I go sentence by sentence, zooming in to catch things I missed.
