Why I became an editor
As an avid reader, keen writer, and all around lover of the written word, proofreading allows me to practice what I love and help others improve their own work in the process. After studying English language, literature, and history, I developed a career in financial services, lending my written and analytical skills to the mortgage industry. The most rewarding way for me to support the development of others is through proofreading.
Background and experience
I have over five years' experience in the finance industry, working as a team manager overseeing UK mortgage underwriting.
Why I love proofreading and editing
Growing up, I spent all my spare time reading and writing recreationally, and consequently I developed an eye for proofreading. There is nothing more satisfying to me than a flawless piece of writing. Due to my studies in Greek mythology, I have always enjoyed proofreading historical texts around such subjects. However, as a bookworm at heart, the analytical review of fictional literature is always a joy to read.
Favorite book:
Wolf of the Plains by Conn Iggulden
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I love listening to indie/indie rock music. I always have headphones with me no matter where I go. Music brings me happiness and lets me escape everyday life.
Editing tips:
I begin by reading a text in its entirety, then work line by line, correcting errors as I find them. I have a checklist that I follow, and I refer to this once I have proofread the entire text.
