Favorite referencing style
Harvard referencing is my favorite style. During my studies, it was the expected referencing style, and I quickly became very familiar with it.
Why I became an editor
I have always been a reader. I have spent many years devouring books and loving the journeys they provided. After completing university, I knew I wanted to work with words. I wanted to find a role where I could combine my keen attention to detail with my love of reading, writing, and helping others, and proofreading felt like the natural next step. I have since completed a proofreading course with Knowadays, and I regularly volunteer my proofreading skills with Distributed Proofreaders.
Background and experience
At Distributed Proofreaders, I assist with converting texts and distributing them into the public domain through Project Gutenberg. Since 2019, I have written reviews of fiction books through Netgalley for authors, publishing houses, and public relations agencies specializing in book promotions. I have more than 10 years’ experience working in customer service roles, including retail management and administration. I have a business degree with a major in marketing and a diploma in business.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love providing fresh eyes for other writers. It means I can help ensure their work is written clearly and concisely while still maintaining their voice and intended meaning.
Favorite book:
The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker is my favorite book.
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I can be found reading, baking, hiking, or planning my next adventure.
Editing tips:
I like to skim read the document to gain an idea of the author’s voice and tone. After proofreading, I run through a checklist of common mistakes to ensure I haven’t overlooked anything.
