Favorite referencing style

APA is my favorite style. It makes the most sense.

Why I became an editor

In 2003, I left my miserable tech job in Dublin to get my foot in the door of a US publishing company based in my hometown. As an editorial assistant, I got my hands dirty with proofreading and editing newsletters, reports, courses, and books—all on themes related to traveling, living, retiring, and investing overseas. In 2007, I broke out as a freelancer, and I now divide my time between copywriting and editing projects.

Background and experience

I worked as an editorial assistant, special products editor, and editorial director at Agora Ireland. These roles involved editing and proofreading newsletters, writing articles and reports, commissioning copy from freelance writers, planning and producing documents, and managing the editorial department—including the production of online newsletters, print newsletters, courses, kits, books, and reports. I now work as a freelance copywriter and editor.

Why I love proofreading and editing

I always love reading other people's work and seeing how they bring their ideas together. Though my past work has mainly focused on themes of travel, real estate, investment, and making money from writing and photography, I feel I can bring my skills to a range of topics. At all times, I aim to preserve the writer's voice and help present the work in its cleanest, clearest form.

I swear by keeping a proofreading checklist, and I add to it as needed. I also tend to read the work out loud to help me catch less obvious errors.
