Favorite referencing style
I enjoy the MLA referencing style because I studied the humanities a lot in college, so it's the one I'm the most familiar with. I also love its simplicity! APA is a close second.
Why I became an editor
I studied film and media production in college, which involved a lot of essay writing as well as lots of creative writing for screenplays. After college, I moved to Germany for three years, where I ran my own photography business. Running my own business and getting to create art while traveling was fantastic. Since moving back to the US, I've begun writing creatively again. This got me thinking about what kind of job I can do in this field. Proofreading was the answer.
Background and experience
I worked for three years as a freelance photographer. In this role, I wrote and edited all of my website and social media content with great success. I was one of the top-rated photographers in my local area. I also learned a great deal about customer service and the importance of quick turnaround times.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love the satisfaction of cleaning up a piece of writing so that it's the best possible version that it can be. How can someone be taken seriously if their writing is full of errors? Proofreading means being in the business of helping others succeed. I have lots of experience in APA, Chicago, and MLA formats, having used all of these for the completion of my degree. I especially enjoy proofreading and editing academic, creative, or social media-oriented content.
Favorite book:
Piranesi by Susanna Clarke is my favorite book.
Hobbies:
When I'm not at my desk, I'm probably hiking with my husband, perfecting my photography, baking, or reading on the couch with two cats in my lap.
Editing tips:
I find it useful to keep a running checklist of things to look over for every document I work on. This ensures I never miss a thought or forget to check something important.
