Why I became an editor
I am currently studying for my BA in Creative Writing. I have always loved studying English at school, so studying it at university has been like a dream come true! However, I did not know what I wanted to become. I have taught for the past two years but did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I was searching for an alternative: something remote that includes my love for reading and writing. Then I found the Knowadays course and Proofed. I finally found my dream job!
Background and experience
I worked in retail for six months at a bookstore. Then I worked part-time for two online ESL teaching companies for a year and a half.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I feel accomplished after editing a piece of writing to perfection. I enjoy helping people tell their story and reading about it as well. I also enjoy helping with clarification and reading about different viewpoints on a subject matter.
Favorite book:
‘The Night Circus’ by Erin Morgenstern.
Hobbies:
When I am not proofreading, I am most likely reading a novel, studying a language (Japanese, French or German) travelling or playing video games.
Editing tips:
Before I begin proofreading a document, I scan through it to get an idea of the subject matter and the author's voice. I also read every sentence out loud or use Speak (a built-in feature of Word).
