Favorite referencing style

Chicago is my favorite, as it’s the one I use the most. MLA comes in second place.

Why I became an editor

Language is my passion! This includes writing, reading, learning languages, and teaching languages. As I have a love for learning and a nearly obsessive need to correct errors in texts, proofreading is a job that brings me immense delight. The only thing better is being able to help others make their writing shine!

Background and experience

I have worked in a variety of jobs ranging from wildland firefighting, laboratory work, the wine industry, and tutoring in an English as a Second Language setting. I’ve done frequent proofreading in a laboratory setting, which generally involves reports, standard operating procedures, and forms.

Why I love proofreading and editing

There is something so satisfying about reading a piece of writing and getting so lost in the content that you don't notice the words in front of your face. That's when I know something has been written, edited, and proofread with excellence. While I enjoy proofreading nearly anything, I am partial to fiction (especially science fiction and fantasy), language and literature, Asian culture and history, forestry, and botany.

Favorite book:

Jingo by Terry Pratchett

Hobbies:

When I'm not proofreading, I'm likely to be found wandering the forest, writing, reading a book, or napping with said book on my face.

Editing tips:

Before you call a document completely done, read it aloud or use a text-to-speech function and listen to it. You'd be surprised how easy it is to catch areas that don't sound quite right.
