Favorite referencing style
APA is my favorite referencing style because I have the most experience with it.
Why I became an editor
Writing poetry and short stories allows me to express my ideas and create characters that hopefully convey a new perspective or experience for others. I’ve always loved reading, and in college, I studied English and creative writing. I enjoyed the opportunities I had to help my classmates with their writing as well as receive feedback from them about my own. Proofreading is the ideal way to read about different topics while helping others to express their ideas clearly.
Background and experience
I've been working as a marketing director in the pet industry for the last 20 years. During this time, I have edited and written product manuals, training guides, marketing, business, web copy, press releases, and magazine articles. I'm also our company's graphic designer and photographer, so I'm responsible for making sure we sound and look polished.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I enjoy refining a piece to read in the clearest way possible so the author's voice remains true to their intent. I also appreciate how formatting can improve the readability of a piece. I enjoy proofreading a variety of topics, but mostly sociology, philosophy, criminology, psychology, anthropology, photography, literature, and history.
Favorite book:
Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist is my favorite book.
Hobbies:
When I’m not proofreading, I enjoy motorcycle trips, photography, photomicrography, music, hiking, and reading.
Editing tips:
I like to skim over a document prior to proofreading. This gives me a general idea of the tone and any recurring issues that catch my eye up front.
