Favorite referencing style
My favorite referencing style is APA. It's used across many disciplines and clearly conveys the source materials used in the document.
Why I became an editor
I studied and worked in the field of archaeology for many years, which required a deep knowledge of history and extensive writing skills. An opportunity to spend a year in Vancouver, Canada allowed me to expand my love of writing, and consequently, embrace the field of editing. I loved it and wanted to use my skills to help others excel in their writing.
Background and experience
I have substantial technical writing experience in the social sciences. I received an editing certificate from Proofreading Academy and an ACES certificate from the Poynter Institute. I have edited a variety of documents, including college admissions papers, essays, academic and journal articles, resumes, cover letters, ESL documents, and many more. I enjoy this work because I learn something new with each document I edit.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love helping people to polish their writing, and I especially enjoy learning about what interests other people, while learning something new with every paper I edit. I learned a lot about writing, editing, and formatting while working on my master's thesis, and I understand how challenging it is to write one's thoughts in an organized way.
Favorite book:
I'm a sci-fi and fantasy nerd. Give me anything by Ursula K. Le Guin, Terry Pratchett, or Andy Weir and I'm happy!
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I enjoy spending time outdoors in the mountains or at the beach, gardening, and relaxing with my family and pets.
Editing tips:
I am methodical and follow the same steps each time I open a document. I strive to preserve the author's style and voice while considering the intended audience.
