Why I became an editor
After graduating with a first-class degree in combined sciences, I spent my career in the business world working with engineers, completing a master’s degree, negotiating contracts, travelling, and delivering projects and budgets. I have always enjoyed getting into really fine detail, and I get a sense of satisfaction in driving for perfection. Proofreading gives me an opportunity to take all the skills I have developed on my journey and help others to perfect their own special projects.
Background and experience
I have completed the Becoming A Proofreader course with Knowadays, written my own dissertation, and proofread for friends and family. I am now looking forward to transferring all my academic and professional skills into a career in proofreading.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I gain a lot of personal satisfaction from a job well done and enjoy bringing a piece of work as close to perfection as it can be. I have a natural flair for finding something that isn’t right and enjoy reading a wide range of pieces – whether works of fiction or anything from the world of academia or business.
Favorite book:
‘War Horse’ by Michael Morpurgo.
Hobbies:
When I am not proofreading, I can be found hanging out with my children, baking, or planning holidays.
Editing tips:
When I first open a document, I always read it through in its entirety, ensuring I really understand the author's style and story. Furthermore, I always double-check my work when I have finished to ensure nothing has slipped through.
