Why I became an editor
I have often found myself proofreading for friends and colleagues. While my education carried me in other directions, I would frequently smile at a misspelling in a menu or the funny result of a dangling modifier. More recently, my thoughts were drawn back to proofreading. Taking proofreading and editing courses reignited my interest, and I look forward to helping polish others’ work so that the true essence of their writing shines through.
Background and experience
Detail and word choice have always been an integral part of my work. Whether writing a research paper, explaining fundamental concepts in a general physics course, or teaching a dance couple how to move seamlessly together to create a flowing waltz, the words I choose must be specific and appropriate for my audience. I have worked on a variety of documents, including CVs, PowerPoint presentations, journal articles, instruction manuals, newsletters, and marketing materials.
Why I love proofreading and editing
Helping a writer put the final touches on their work is a reward in itself. It’s a pleasure to know they can confidently share their creation with the world!
Favorite book:
It’s so hard to choose just one favorite. I enjoy different types of books at different times.
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, you may find me getting lost in nature, straying from recipes in the kitchen, or dancing around the house in my socks!
Editing tips:
I like to read through the document before starting to proofread so that I can get a sense of the tone and style, as well as what it is about. I also like to follow a checklist.
