Why I became an editor

I love to read and write. In fact, I enjoyed the essay sections of tests in school very much. I enjoy reading because any letter, contract, product label, marketing blurb or email provides a snapshot of what is important to that individual at that moment in time. Therefore, it is vitally important that the text is a flawless representation of the author's intentions. It is very satisfying to assist in that endeavor by polishing the grammar, punctuation, and wording as needed.

Background and experience

When my husband and I moved to Florida, I worked as a legal assistant to an attorney specializing in estate planning and wealth management. My last position was with a larger firm in West Palm Beach, where I worked concurrently with the corporate and estate planning departments. I revised and proofed business and estate related documents under the direction of the attorney-in-charge via dictated or handwritten changes, forwarded documents to clients via Outlook, and maintained client files.

Why I love proofreading and editing

I love being able to assist the author in presenting whatever they are trying to convey as flawlessly as possible.

Favorite book:

I am an avid reader, so this is a difficult question. I think I would have to say anything written by Karen Robards, but her series on Dr. Charlotte Stone was exceptional.

Hobbies:

I love to play games online to keep my mind active. Most particularly, I like puzzles, hidden object games, and logic problems.

Editing tips:

I never begin proofing a document before reading it through. In that way, I am able to determine the outcome the author is trying to achieve.
