Favorite referencing style
I have training and experience in APA, but I am also knowledgeable about CMOS.
Why I became an editor
I have helped many students edit their CVs, resumes, essays, personal statements, and emails, and I enjoy refining a text so that it reflects a student's original intent. In my previous role as a cataloging librarian, I loved the challenge of editing records to perfection, where every period, comma, space, and capitalization (or not) mattered. I am also an avid reader and have an eye for misplaced punctuation marks, incorrect homophones, or odd phrasing.
Background and experience
I worked as a reference and cataloging librarian for several years before I changed course to become an ESL teacher. I have taught in China and Japan, as well as in private schools in Denver, Colorado. I have also taught students from around the world via online platforms.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love crafting a text into a polished and beautiful form that is organized and engages the reader. I enjoy the challenge of refining a piece so that it reflects the author's clearest ideas with a foundation of consistency and accuracy. I especially enjoy editing works related to ecological topics and outdoor pursuits, such as backpacking, mountaineering, simple living, voluntary simplicity, and unconventional lifestyles.
Favorite book:
Although it's difficult to land on a specific book, my favorite genre is historical fiction.
Hobbies:
I am a runner and am currently training for (another) half marathon. I also ski, backpack, travel in my truck camper, and knit.
Editing tips:
I set the proofing language, skim the text to get a sense of the style, correct spelling and grammar, then go through it again more thoroughly. I take a break, then repeat this process.
