“Writing is sometimes just getting ink on paper so that you can proofread it later.”

Favorite referencing style

At university, I used the MHRA referencing style and so naturally it has become my favourite as I have always had an inclination for footnote referencing.

Why I became an editor

Writing has always been a central part of my life, both creatively and academically. At university, I studied history – a subject which required a lot of reading and writing – and I found that I wanted to improve my writing further. Proofreading was recommended to me as a possible way forward as I was also fulfilling the role of proofreader for a business at the time. It helped me not just with the final drafts of my essays, but also my own understanding and approach to the writing process. As a job, it has now opened up the possibility for me to help others improve their own writing in the same way that it helped me.

Background and experience

Before I found Proofreading Academy, I worked as a proofreader and event assistant for a business – YLK Mentors – where I assisted in the writing and proofreading of social media posts, event and course content, and website material.

Why I love proofreading and editing

I have always considered writing as an art; words and language and punctuation come together to craft a piece that even in its simplest form can convey a multitude of messages. Proofreading and editing play a large part in this creation, and this is why I love it so much. Arts and humanities especially draw my interest when it comes to proofreading due their more creative and interpretive elements, but I also enjoy the more technical side of psychology subjects.

Favorite book:

Green Rider by Kristen Britain

Hobbies:

I am usually writing my own poetry and other creative projects when I am not proofreading, but I also love cooking up new recipes and doodling pencil sketches.

Editing tips:

It is always best to look at a document with fresh eyes during the proofreading process. I like to take a short break so I can focus my eyes on something else before coming back. It really helps to pick out anything that I could have missed before.
