Favorite referencing style
I don't have a preference.
Why I became an editor
I have an inquisitive mind and have always enjoyed learning to use reference books. From a word that requires a dictionary to information found in a manual or encyclopedia, it feels good to find the answer. Proofreading gives that same sense of achievement. Along with job satisfaction, there is also the chance to learn new things.
Background and experience
I have been self-employed for 20 years. My background is in horticulture with a combination of practical and admin roles.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love the idea of helping someone to refine their work. Reading error-free work is a joy, and being a part of the process is very satisfying. I love the challenge of checking the little details and nudging a project toward perfection.
Favorite book:
Poltergeist by James Kahn is my favorite book. It cost me 30c from a little junk shop in New Zealand, and kept me company in my tent while I was backpacking.
Hobbies:
When I'm not proofreading, I can be spotted photographing wildlife, out on the motorbike, gardening, or pondering a cryptic crossword. The dogs escort me on all of the above (except for one)!
Editing tips:
I like to print the document when I first read it. Next, I highlight the punctuation on the paper copy, circle any spelling errors, and then continue on-screen.
