Favorite referencing style
My favorite style is APA referencing. I find it is the most natural style of referencing to work with.
Why I became an editor
I have been working as a PA for over 10 years, and as part of my role, I proofread a variety of documents for my company. I realized that proofreading is something I thoroughly enjoy and I wanted to learn more about doing it professionally. I discovered Knowadays and completed the Becoming A Proofreader Course, which has expanded my knowledge and compliments my existing experience.
Background and experience
I am currently working as a PA to the Chief Executive of a helicopter operator and have been in this role for 10 years. Prior to this, I worked for the Crofting Commission as an elections officer and then as a PA to the Convener. I have also been an events assistant for a chamber of commerce. My working life started in the childcare sector, where I worked as a nursery nurse and completed my NVQ training.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I love the excitement of opening a new document and getting to know the author’s own style. I believe this is important, as any changes I make, although necessary, should keep in line with the author's tone. I especially enjoy proofreading business and commercial documents and I have a lot of experience in these areas.
Favorite book:
Dark Matter by Michelle Paver
Hobbies:
In my spare time, I enjoy keeping active by walking my dog, doing yoga, and practicing archery.
Editing tips:
Once I have finished proofreading a document, I like to take a break, then go back and read it out loud to ensure the text flows well.
