AMA because I enjoy editing medical documents, but also APA.

Why I became an editor

I have an inquisitive and analytical mind and enjoy learning fascinating topics, which led me to pursue an education in the sciences. After my undergraduate career, I earned my bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. However, I could not ignore my innate love for the written word. Besides pursuing professional development in medical writing, I chose a career in editing and proofreading because I believe in using my analytical skills to assist others with communicating pertinent information.

Background and experience

In the past, I have often assisted coworkers and friends with their writing, either with simple proofreading or with substantive editing. I also edit emails for my family's restaurant business. I have assisted college students with editing their essays.

Why I love proofreading and editing

I enjoy the satisfying feeling of editing a manuscript to the point where it communicates information in a more cogent manner. Although I am open to editing and proofreading all subject matters, I do have a preference for medical and scientific documents, as I am more familiar with the AMA Manual of Style. I also frequently use APA.

Favorite book:

Cleopatra's Daughter by Michelle Moran.

Hobbies:

When I am not proofreading, I like listening to music or engaging in creative outlets such as drawing, writing, or bookbinding. I also enjoy googling things I am curious about because I like learning.

Editing tips:

I usually look for obvious errors in grammar, punctuation, or capitalization first. On subsequent readings, I look for other errors, such as redundant phrasing or dangling modifiers.
