Favorite referencing style

MHRA referencing was used by my university department, so it's the style I'm most at home with. It's a bit unusual and one of the more complex ones, but that means I'm very good at adapting to the others!

Why I became an editor

Whilst studying English literature at university, I discovered that I enjoyed not only writing my own essays but helping others to improve theirs! I found acting as a mentor to other students to be incredibly rewarding and wanted to continue helping others to improve their writing.

Background and experience

I have experience in proofreading and copywriting from roles with Cornerstone Editorial and a marketing team at Lancaster University. These roles have allowed me to further develop the skills I picked up whilst studying for my degrees, where producing clear and engaging essays was essential.

I have also worked as a tutor, helping others to improve their own work. I found this rewarding and am looking forward to bringing this experience of working alongside clients into my editorial role.

Why I love proofreading and editing

I love improving the clarity of a piece of work and allowing the writer's ideas to shine through whilst being exposed to new subjects and broadening my own knowledge through the pieces I read. Proofreading and editing allow me to combine my creative and logical sides, and I enjoy improving the flow of writing as much as the more structured aspects, such as correcting references.

Favorite book:

The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

Hobbies:

When I'm not proofreading, I'll probably be reading or watching TV in the company of my cat.

Editing tips:

I find it useful to do several passes on a document. If there are any parts I'm struggling with, I highlight them; they feel a lot less overwhelming once I've checked over the rest of the document.
