Why I became an editor
I have always been passionate about the written word! With a background in education, I enjoy fostering a love of reading in students as well as teaching creative writing. Having taught in the UK and abroad, I have a wealth of experience working with pupils and colleagues who speak English as a second language. Helping others to perfect their written communication seemed like a natural next step for me. This role gives me the opportunity to read about a wide range of fascinating subjects.
Background and experience
My background in education has provided me with an ideal base on which to build further proofreading and editing skills.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I enjoy working with a wide range of writing styles. My passion is for creative writing. However, I also find academic and business writing fascinating. The scope of projects I can work on is one of the key elements that drew me to proofreading and editing. I love the combination of focusing on small details while simultaneously considering the text as a whole.
Favorite book:
It’s so hard to choose just one favorite book! But I would say Possession by A.S. Byatt. It's incredible – you have to read it!
Hobbies:
My hobbies include hiking with my dogs, traveling, cooking, reading... and always, always drinking coffee!
Editing tips:
I try to focus on who the intended audience is. I put myself in their mindset while I do the final checks, which helps me to see the writing in a different light.
