Favorite referencing style

I prefer APA referencing because I am the most familiar with it.

Why I became an editor

I went back to teaching after a 14-year break and spent time coordinating a program that helped struggling readers. Changes in education sent me on a mission to find something outside of the classroom that would still allow me to help others. I have always been a detail-oriented person and enjoy fixing things and making them better. Proofreading is a great combination of my interests and is the perfect job for me!

Background and experience

My whole career has been centered around teaching young children to read and write. I have taught the writing process, which includes editing and proofreading. I coordinated a program (Learning Assistance Program) centered around helping struggling readers and writers. I have spent countless hours reading about and researching the best methods to teach reading and writing. All of this experience gives me a solid foundation for proofreading.

Why I love proofreading and editing

I love fixing things and making them better. Proofreading allows me to do this. I am very detail-oriented, so I enjoy looking for errors and correcting them. I also love the aspect of proofreading that allows me to help someone learn something that they did not already know. If I can help someone become a better writer in the process, it makes my teacher's heart feel full!

Favorite book:

My favorite book is The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.

Hobbies:

When I’m not proofreading, my favorite thing to do is spend time with my one-year-old granddaughter. I also enjoy spending time with the rest of my family, decorating cookies, and traveling.

Editing tips:

I find that it helps me to take regular breaks while proofreading. Reading the document out loud also helps me to spot errors. Reading a document backward helps me to focus on each word individually.
