Favorite referencing style

My favorite referencing style is Chicago, although I was primarily trained in MLA.

Why I became an editor

I have loved to read since I was a child, which has led me into a variety of different fields – all of them book-based! I graduated from college with a degree in communications and literature in 2014 and pursued a degree in financial marketing from there. I wrote copy and double checked the compliance on all written materials. I switched to academia in 2016, and writing and researching has been my life ever since. I love editing because of the intricate subjects I get to learn about.

Background and experience

As a marketing associate from 2014–2015, I was responsible for managing and maintaining content and documents for two company websites, directing the publication of research articles, handling communications between compliance groups, assuring all sales and marketing material was industry-compliant, and coordinating communications. As a tutor from 2019–2021, I devised lesson topics and plans for each seminar meeting, set readings, held office hours, and marked essays for students.

Why I love proofreading and editing

I love helping other people succeed in their writing, especially on an academic level. Every time a paper is properly proofread and returned, the writer learns something about their writing. Good proofreading and editing preserves the voice and style while maintaining the rules of the language.

Favorite book:

My favorite book is a play called Arcadia by Tom Stoppard.

Hobbies:

When I'm not proofreading, I like to read, hike, and binge terrible television.

Editing tips:

If I’m having trouble proofreading a document, I sometimes read it from the bottom up, paragraph by paragraph, to make sure I don’t miss anything.
