Favorite referencing style

MLA is my favorite. It was the first style I learned to use, and I think that the use of footnotes adds a bit of gravitas to any document.

Why I became an editor

I earned a degree in accounting, but I found that writing about business topics was much more enjoyable than grinding through problems involving debits and credits. Proofreading and editing business documents provides me with the same satisfaction that writing for nonprofits did, but it allows me to draw upon my business education in a dynamic way. While some might think of writing reports, emails, and memos as mundane, I view them as a way to reflect an organization’s culture.

Background and experience

I served as a volunteer grant writer with nonprofits in New York City.

Why I love proofreading and editing

I love proofreading and editing because they give me the opportunity to take a set of complex statements and reduce them to their most salient elements while making them more understandable and relevant for the largest possible audience. At the same time, I am still able to preserve the individual’s or organization’s basic message.

Favorite book:

My favorite book is Becoming a Strategic Leader: Your Role in Your Organization's Enduring Success by Richard L. Hughes, Katherine M. Beatty, and David Dinwoodie.

Hobbies:

When I am not proofreading, I am teaching tai chi to seniors.

Editing tips:

I read through the entire document once. Once I have an understanding of the subject, I look for grammar and punctuation errors. Finally, I read the entire document to ensure consistency.
