Why I became an editor

I have always had a passion for language, dating back to school. Throughout my career, I have used this passion, alongside a keen eye for detail, to support others to improve the accuracy, content and flow of their documents.

My learning continued when I studied speech and language therapy at university and went on to teach others how to make documents accessible using 'easy read' techniques.

Proofreading suits my strengths in terms of written language, accuracy and attention to detail.

Background and experience

I have proofread informally for over thirty years in various roles. I have vast experience in writing reports, academic essays, policy documents and letters. My university studies also required me to learn about different referencing systems.
My work as a speech language therapist for adults with learning disabilities has increased my awareness of the need for any written document to be accessible to its intended audience.

Why I love proofreading and editing

I am passionate about ensuring that documents are as clear as possible for the intended audience, and I understand the importance of using not only an appropriate writing style, but also accurate language to achieve this. My keen eye for detail is the main strength that has drawn me to professional proofreading, and using this to help others improve their writing is very rewarding.
