Why I became an editor

I have always been interested in writing, proofreading, and editing. I've spent nearly 10 years combined working as a court transcriber, which has honed my proofreading and formatting skills. Working as an editor allows me to further pursue my passion for working with the written word. As a trained speech pathologist and ESL teacher, I also have plenty of experience helping others to improve. I love to work with people who are used to writing in a language other than English.

Background and experience

I worked as a document merger where I collated, proofread, and formatted court transcripts prior to distributing them to clients. As a court transcriber, I typed court proceedings and proofread my work prior to sending them back to the team in a timely manner. As an ESL Teacher, I taught beginner and intermediate level English to adults at a private college in Brisbane. And as a speech-language pathologist, I provide assessment and intervention to people with a wide range of presentations.

Why I love proofreading and editing

Proofreading and editing is truly satisfying work. I love the challenge of making a piece of writing as perfect as it can be. I take a lot of pride in my job as a proofreader and editor and feel that it is where my professional skills are best put to use.

I love to bake sourdough bread, take my dog on walking trails, crochet, and listen to true crime podcasts.

Editing tips:

When you're done proofreading, put your work away for a few hours or a day, and then come back to it if you have left enough time. You're guaranteed to find one or two more errors to fix up.
