Why I became an editor

A common theme of my previous work has been my focus on communication, particularly in the written form. My passion for reading and writing is underlined by the belief that communication—of all kinds—is fundamental to connecting with others. Through my varied work experience, I learned that this passion extends into helping others effectively communicate their own ideas. For me, proofreading is an excellent way to help others make a positive impact on the world through the written word.

Background and experience

Financial Analyst for the Social Security Administration (2014–present)
Proofreader for Baltimore Home Cleaning (2017–2018)
Ghostwriter for a Self-published Author (2016)
Content Creator and Community Host for a Modern Italian Network (2012–2021)
Communications Specialist for the Italian Consulate General in Baltimore, MD, USA (2010–2011)

Why I love proofreading and editing

As a proofreader and general fan of writing, reading an impeccably written piece is experiencing a masterpiece. Understanding the process behind that masterpiece—articulating thoughts, choosing the right words, editing, and finally polishing the work through proofreading—allows for a deep appreciation of the effort it takes to develop the final product. It excites me to be a part of the author’s journey of creating influential work and potentially making an indelible mark in the mind of readers.

Favorite book:

“The DaVinci Code” by Dan Brown.

Hobbies:

When I'm not proofreading, I am often cooking (and eating, of course!), playing tennis, journaling, drawing, or spending time with my family.

Editing tips:

When proofreading, I find it most important to identify the intended purpose, because that will serve as the bridge to the reader’s understanding and connection to the writer.
