Why I became an editor
Because my art background gave me laser-focus to detail, I was drawn to the proofreading field. It's a perfect fit for my personality. I am willing to do the super-detailed work of proofreading for others; in fact, I enjoy the search for improvements. Helping people is also at the core of my character. For the past decade, I have helped others develop art skills, and now I look forward to helping writers with the work of proofreading.
Background and experience
My most recent experience with writing, editing, and proofreading is as a blogger. In 2019, I created and developed an art information blog. I continue to write and publish articles on techniques, materials, education, and motivation for beginning artists (yourartbox.com). I currently have my art website (elainerittlerart.com) and other storefronts on other art websites (Etsy, Redbubble, Society6, etc.) in which all content was created, written, and proofread by me.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I am a very detailed person and enjoy the work of finding errors, correcting content, and improving the flow, clarity, and concision of writing.
Favorite book:
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
Hobbies:
Other ways I spend my time is creating art (paintings, drawings, rock painting, etc.), taking walks in the countryside with our Great Pyrenees, and swimming in the Finger Lakes in the summer.
Editing tips:
I always proofread when well-rested and alert. I first look over the document for obvious spelling and punctuation. Then, I move on to meaning and grammar, and then I review it one more time.
