Why I became an editor
I have studied and worked in the IT field for 20 years. A large portion of my roles have been in technical writing. During my career and education, I noticed that I loved learning new information and writing about what I learned.
I have always been an avid reader and have felt drawn to having a career where I can learn and help others. Proofreading feels like a natural fit for me and is something that I am excited to do.
Background and experience
Editing has always been a component of the jobs I have been employed in. I have not had a specific editing job, but I have needed to complete numerous technical writing projects where I have been responsible for creating or editing numerous technical guides or reports for wider business consumption.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I have a passion for problem-solving, and proofreading provides me with an opportunity to find issues and solve them. I am also a curious person and enjoy reading many different topics. I have a strong background in computer science and data analytics, but I am also interested in many other fields and enjoy academic writing.
Favorite book:
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen.
Hobbies:
If I'm not proofreading, I am usually looking after my young family, but when I can, I enjoy exercising, running, mountain biking and swimming. I also love to crochet and weave while watching some TV.
Editing tips:
I start by reading a few paragraphs to get a feel for the writing, and then I use a checklist to look for specific issues. I do several passes, looking for different types of issues with each read.
