SoFi publishes financial education content across 12 product lines, from home loans and investing to insurance and small business. Its SEO and content teams keep the library current through regular compliance updates that incorporate refreshed data, new primary sources, and the right disclaimers. As production grew, the teams looked for an editorial partner that could deliver compliance-grade QA at volume.
SoFi’s content library covers every major financial decision its members face, from refinancing a student loan to starting a small business. In financial services, rates move and product details change, meaning their SEO and content teams refresh their library constantly.
Keeping existing articles compliant accounts for roughly two-thirds of SoFi’s content workload. Each one needs re-fact-checking, updated data points, and the correct disclaimers before it can go live.
Different financial product lines carry different levels of risk:
At hundreds of compliance updates per quarter, the risk wasn’t any one article but in the volume. SoFi needed error checks built in before articles ever landed on its compliance team’s desks.
Regulated financial content leaves little room for error and plenty of room for volume. Fintech teams use Proofed to keep both under control.
Proofed started with a 35-draft pilot, working inside the teams’ existing Google Docs and Workfront workflow. As volume grew, Proofed shaped its editing and QA around the specific demands of each product line and each type of update.
High-risk investing content on topics such as crypto, retirement, and margin trading goes to editors with specific financial expertise. Proofed also screens incoming banking batches for overlapping investing topics before they become compliance issues and has narrowed the editor pool for more complex verticals, such as student loan refinancing, home loan, and home equity content to experienced staff.
To bring order to dozens of separate internal workflows, Proofed built a standardised cheat sheet template that separates editing instructions from the client’s internal writer, editor, and producer notes. Editors know exactly what applies to them on every piece.
Before returning the final reviewed article, editors remove bracketed AI footnote numbers while keeping the source lists intact. Editors thoroughly fact-check each data point, claim, and definition for errors, and rewrite AI language in a conversational tone to match SoFi’s voice.
SoFi’s compliance reviewer clicks every footnote source URL to confirm it’s valid, so Proofed built clickable-link checks into standard QA. Every source provided by editors is a primary or respected source with data published within the last two years whenever possible. When an ‘Average Retirement Savings by State’ article relied on 2021 data, editors flagged it and gave the team three fact-sourcing options.
Proofed also worked with SoFi to retire overlapping disclaimers that teams had applied unevenly across verticals. Together, they adopted a global SEO disclaimer with a ‘one-click away’ rule linking to product pages, and editors now flag any missing product page in comments.
Minor compliance updates need a lighter touch than AI-generated drafts: factual fixes, data updates, and especially awkward phrasing, with keyword phrasing, anchor text, and structure left alone. Proofed briefed the editing team on that distinction and adjusted its QA checks for Minor Updates, leading to an average reduction in turnaround time from 3–4 hours to 1.5–2 hours.
What began as a 35-draft pilot is now a steady compliance engine. SoFi’s SEO and content teams send 700–800 compliance update stories per quarter.
Capacity flexed when it mattered, and SoFi now publishes regulated content with more confidence. Specialist editors handle the highest-risk topics, editors check sources before sending content to compliance reviewers, and disclaimers follow one standard. With Minor Update QA calibrated to scope, average turnaround time fell from 3–4 hours to 1.5–2 hours.
Proofed started small by editing 35 drafts, allowing the SEO and content teams to judge quality before scaling up.
Specialist financial editors handled high-risk investing content, and experienced staff took on student loan, home loan, and home equity work.
Editors picked up briefs for each article series, followed a standard cheat sheet for AI workflows, and built compliance link checks into QA.
Proofed scaled up to 700–800 compliance update stories per quarter and returned 1,000+ articles in the following quarter.
