Favorite referencing style

I have experience with writing and editing in numerous referencing styles, including (but not limited to) APA, MLA, Harvard, and Chicago.

Why I became an editor

I was a bookworm growing up – my favorite pastime was curling up with a good book for hours. In school, my best subjects were always literature, reading comprehension, writing, and grammar. In college, I majored in Sociology and went on to earn a certification as a child life specialist. Not only did I work clinically in this role, but also administratively. To me, proofreading comes naturally. I delight in improving my editing skills and reading successful writing blogs for fun.

Background and experience

I worked as a proofreader for the Emily Batson Art website, for a poet, Bethany Mootsey, and I edited various pediatric handouts and website pages for Mary Bridge Children's Hospital.

Why I love proofreading and editing

I love honoring the writer's voice by making their written words impeccable. To polish up a piece of writing so that it is clear and consistent brings me deep satisfaction. I love the steady work that surrounds proofreading: its checklists, technicalities, overarching contexts, and sentence-by-sentence editing. It is a brain workout that keeps me sharp and gives me a major sense of accomplishment when I complete each project.

Our expert proofreaders have you covered.

Favorite book:

The books I read over and over are Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, and Beauty by Robin McKinley.

Hobbies:

When I'm not proofreading, I'm managing my household, raising kind and mannerly children (hopefully), reading, watching movies, hiking, and taking trips to national parks or to see extended family.

Editing tips:

Make sure the client's brief is clear and answers all of your questions before you begin working. Also, checklists, checklists, checklists!
