Why I became an editor
I've always enjoyed reading, writing, and teaching, and I learned early in life that I have a knack for spotting errors and inconsistencies in books and other types of content. Editing and proofreading feels natural to me and also gives me an opportunity to help others become better writers.
Background and experience
When I worked as a legal assistant, it was important for my work to be perfect, since I typed patent applications and other important documents for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Throughout my career, I have drafted and proofread numerous legal and business documents. I have also edited and proofread a self-published book, creative writing, and online course content, including marketing materials and blogs.
Why I love proofreading and editing
I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I love the sense of satisfaction that comes with improving a piece of writing while helping the author to become a better writer. I also enjoy learning about new subjects, which is easy to do when proofreading a variety of documents.
Favorite book:
I don't have a specific favorite book, but I'd like to read more of the classics. My next fiction read will be Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf.
Hobbies:
I love to read, of course! But I also enjoy traveling, watching movies, cooking, and just relaxing.
Editing tips:
I think it’s important to review a document before you start editing. This will give you the overall context of the document and help you determine how to edit and proofread it.
