Chicago is my favorite, as this is the style I used throughout my PhD thesis.

Why I became an editor

I have a doctorate in English Literature, so words and writing are my passion. I also have over a decade of teaching experience and I enjoy working with others to improve their writing style. Clear and accurate communication is so vitally important, which is why I love editing and proofreading. I gain great satisfaction from helping authors to polish their writing.

Background and experience

My background is in academia. I hold a doctorate degree, and alongside my studies, I worked extensively in the higher education system, both in academic (teaching) and professional (student support) roles. Through my doctorate, I gained invaluable experience in writing, editing and proofreading work. I took a career sidestep into healthcare, but have now returned to the university setting where I work in the archives and special collections at the University of Leicester.

Why I love proofreading and editing

I enjoy crafting and polishing writing so that the author's message comes across in the clearest possible way. Having spent a decade studying and working in academia, I specialise in proofreading academic documents; my areas of expertise are English Literature, drama and theatrical history, and the Middle Ages. I enjoy the intellectual challenge of proofreading academic work, and I gain satisfaction from ensuring that writing is as flawless as possible.

My hobbies include reading, writing, and playing with my six-month-old son.

Editing tips:

After proofreading a document, if there is time before the deadline, I set it aside for an hour or two or even overnight if possible. Then I come back to it with fresh eyes and go over it once more.
