Favorite referencing style

Although references are not my favourite part of academic editing(!), I do like the clarity of a Vancouver style reference list.

Why I became an editor

I became an editor because I am fascinated by language and have a deep interest in learning about as many subjects as I can.

Working as an editor allows me to apply my skills with written language to my love of academic study.

I particularly enjoy refining written content to bring the best out of its meaning and make it as impactful as possible.

Background and experience

After graduating with a degree in English, I started working as an editor for a market research company. I then entered academic editing for the Institute of Physics, where I produced a number of their journals in the physical and material sciences. Currently, I work as a production editor for the Royal College of Pathologists, where I edit the college's quarterly magazine and clinical guidelines. I also work as a freelance editor and proofreader on essays and journal articles.

Why I love proofreading and editing

I love to bring the best out of people's writing and strengthen their inner linguistic diamond. I particularly enjoy working on a variety of academic content in various fields that take my interest.

Favorite book:

‘Paradise Lost’ by Milton – I love the scale and scope of the poem.

Hobbies:

Playing video games, listening to music, exploring London or cooking.

Editing tips:

My best tip is to maintain the author's voice while streamlining the text as much as possible. I find that the most complicated ideas are best described in the clearest language.
